Signing the purchase agreement feels like the finish line. For industrial machinery, it’s the middle of the process.
Between the sale and a working machine on your floor, several things need to happen in the right order.
Preparation. Before a machine moves, it usually needs cleaning and a condition check. Larger equipment may need partial disassembly so it can travel safely.
Transport. Machinery is heavy, awkward and valuable. The route, vehicle type, loading method and timing all need planning. Delivery dates depend on distance, availability and border conditions, so treat any date as an estimate until it’s confirmed.
Insurance. Transit insurance protects you if something goes wrong on the road or at sea. Ask what’s covered and what isn’t before the machine leaves.
Customs and paperwork. For international purchases, documents must be complete and correct. Missing or inconsistent paperwork is one of the most common causes of delay.
Reassembly and installation. Once the machine arrives, it has to be reassembled, positioned, connected and tested.
None of these steps is unusual. The trouble comes when buyers discover them one at a time, mid-transaction. Planning the whole chain before you buy is how you avoid surprises.
